Swift Shines in Hometown Win
” The Eagles ran all over the Vikings on Thursday night. D’Andre Swift, who grew up in Philadelphia and went to St. Joe’s Prep, had a career night with 175 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries.
He also added six yards on two catches. Swift was the main man in the backfield with Kenneth Gainwell out with a rib injury.
He had his best game as a pro, breaking off a 43-yard run in the fourth quarter that set up his 2-yard score to seal the win for the Eagles, who improved to 2-0. The Vikings did not give up easily, though.
They trailed 27-7 with less than 11 minutes left in the third quarter, but they scored two quick touchdowns to make it a one-possession game.
Kirk Cousins connected with Jordan Addison for a 62-yard bomb and then found KJ Osborn for a 10-yard strike in the fourth quarter.
Cousins finished with 296 yards and two touchdowns, but he also lost two fumbles.
Eagles Defense Forces Four Turnovers
The Eagles defense was not perfect, but it made some big plays when it mattered. They forced four fumbles, recovering two of them.
They also stopped Justin Jefferson from scoring a touchdown at the end of the first half, when he fumbled the ball out of the end zone for a touchback.
That was a huge momentum swing, as Jake Elliott nailed a 61-yard field goal to match his own franchise record and give the Eagles a 13-7 lead at halftime.
DeVonta Smith had another big game for the Eagles, catching three passes for 123 yards, including a 63-yard touchdown that put the Eagles up by 20 points in the third quarter.
The Vikings fumbled on their first play of the second half, and Jalen Hurts capitalized with his second rushing touchdown of the night.
Hurts was not very sharp as a passer, completing just 11 of 23 passes for 167 yards and an interception, but he made up for it with his legs, rushing for 44 yards and two scores on nine carries. He now has nine career games with two rushing touchdowns.
Jefferson's Fumble Key Moment in Loss
The Vikings could not overcome their offensive line woes. They were missing their starting left tackle Christian Darrisaw and center Garrett Bradbury, and Kirk Cousins was under constant pressure for most of the game.
He was sacked four times and fumbled twice. Alexander Mattison, who filled in for the injured Dalvin Cook, was ineffective as the lead back, averaging just 2.8 yards per carry.
Justin Jefferson had a big night with 136 yards and a touchdown, but he also had a costly fumble at the goal line that denied the Vikings a chance to take the lead before halftime.
The Eagles defense was aggressive and disruptive, forcing four turnovers and limiting the Vikings to 4 of 12 on third down.
Eagles Improve to 2-0, Vikings Fall to 0-2
The Eagles capitalized on the Vikings’ mistakes. They scored 10 points off turnovers, including a 61-yard field goal by Jake Elliott as time expired in the first half.
That gave them a 13-7 lead after Jefferson’s fumble. The Eagles also scored two touchdowns in the third quarter after the Vikings fumbled on their first two possessions of the second half.
Jalen Hurts ran for two scores and threw for another, a 63-yard bomb to DeVonta Smith, who had a breakout game with 123 yards on three catches.
The Eagles ran the ball effectively with D’Andre Swift, who had a career-high 175 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries. He also had a 43-yard run in the fourth quarter that set up his clinching score.

The key moment of the game was Jefferson’s fumble at the end of the first half.
He caught a 30-yard pass from Cousins and tried to stretch for the pylon, but he lost control of the ball and it went out of bounds in the end zone for a touchback.
That was a huge swing in momentum, as the Eagles got the ball back and Elliott made a franchise-tying 61-yard field goal.
The play of the game was Smith’s 63-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter. He beat his defender with a double move and hauled in a perfect pass from Hurts to give the Eagles a 20-point lead.
