Legendary singer Elton John was hospitalized after suffering a fall at his villa outside of Nice, France. The 76-year-old was taken to Princess Grace Hospital in Monaco and monitored overnight.
John’s representative released a statement to CNN on Monday, saying,
“Elton visited the local hospital as a precautionary measure. Following check ups, he was immediately discharged this morning and is now back at home and in good health.”
In 2021, John postponed scheduled tour dates after injuring his hip in a fall that required surgery. At the time, he said in a statement, “I have been advised to have an operation as soon as possible to get me back to full fitness and make sure there are no long-term complications.”
How is Elton John’s general health?
Elton John’s health has been up and down in recent years. In 2017, he underwent surgery to repair a detached retina in his right eye. He also canceled several tour dates in 2018 due to a bacterial infection.
In 2021, he announced that he would be retiring from touring after a final run of shows in 2023.
John later revealed that he was in constant pain due to his hip injury. In an interview with Lorraine last year, he said, “I wouldn’t be 100% fit, I wouldn’t be 100% confident, because I’m in pain most of the time with my hip.

I can’t move sideways, can’t get in and out of a car, and the decision had to be made, because I wouldn’t want to go onstage and give less than 100 percent.”
